Thirty-seven probationary troopers graduated from the 79th Indiana State Police Academy on December 19, 2019. Two of those probationary troopers are being assigned to the Indiana State Police Lafayette Post and will begin their next phase of training, a three month field training period, riding with veteran troopers. LAKE COUNTY- On January 5, 2020 at approximately 3:30 a.m., Trooper William Carlson was on patrol on I-80/94 near the 2.5 mile-marker in Hammond, IN when he observed a vehicle traveling eastbound at a high rate of speed. Upon activating his radar, he clocked the vehicle traveling at 90 mph on a posted 55 mph interstate. Trooper Carlson also observed the vehicle driving erratically, weaving and driving on the right shoulder.
At a recent awards ceremony held on December 6th at the Indiana State Police Museum in Indianapolis, ISP Superintendent Douglas G. Carter presented milestone service awards for two Fort Wayne troopers. Major Anthony Casto and Master Trooper Aaron Cook both received recognition for having reached 25 years of honorable service with the Indiana State Police.

LAKE COUNTY- At approximately 10:20 pm last night (1/5/2020), Trooper Hamed was on patrol on I-80/94 near the 6 mile-marker in Lake County, Indiana. Trooper Hamed observed a tan Jeep Cherokee driving westbound at a high rate of speed. The Jeep was also operating with red/blue emergency lighting activated.
Indiana Conservation Officers are investigating an off-road vehicle (ORV) accident that claimed the life of the operator.
