Ensemble Member Amy Morton Directs Chicago Premiere of Obie Award-Winning Play Guards at the Taj

Steppenwolf Theatre Company presents the Chicago premiere production of Guards at the Taj by acclaimed playwright Rajiv Joseph, directed by ensemble member Amy Morton. A stunning tale about the search for beauty in desperate circumstances, the Steppenwolf production features the original cast members, Omar Metwally (Humayun) and Arian Moayed (Babur), whom Amy Morton directed in the Off-Broadway world premiere which received rave reviews when it premiered in 2015 and won the 2016 Obie Award for Best New American Play.

SWEENEY TODD run to be extended three weeks, to May 20

Theo Ubique’s SWEENEY TODD: THE DEMON BARBER OF FLEET STREET, originally scheduled to close on April 29, has been extended and will now run through Sunday, May 20. The production earned rave reviews and has been playing to sold-out audiences since its opening on March 12. Philip Torre, Jacquelyne Jones and most of the original cast will remain with the production for the extension. Performance schedules remain unchanged, with the musical playing Thursdays through Saturdays at 7:30 pm and Sundays at 7 pm. Tickets for the additional weeks are now on sale at www.theo-u.com.

Goodman Theatre announces two Sensory-Friendly/Relaxed Performances as part of its ongoing efforts to make the plays on stage accessible to all audiences. In partnership with Autism Speaks-Chicago, these performances are designed to create a performing arts experiences intended for families with members who have autism or other social, cognitive and physical challenges that create sensory sensitivities.

The critically hailed Blue Man Group has teamed up with the world’s leading autism science and advocacy organization, Autism Speaks, to announce their fifth annual collaborative performance Sunday, August 19 at 2 p.m. Slight modifications will be made to Blue Man Group’s performance at Chicago’s Briar Street Theatre (3133 N. Halsted), creating a sensory-friendly show that better accommodates individuals and families affected by autism.
