LIFELINE THEATRE PRESENTS THE 21ST ANNUAL FILLET OF SOLO FESTIVAL, JANUARY 12–28

Lifeline Theatre Artistic Director Dorothy Milne and former Live Bait Theater Artistic Director Sharon Evans are pleased to announce the 21st Annual Fillet of Solo Festival, running January 12–28, 2018. Celebrating the breadth of Chicago’s enduring storytelling and live lit scene, Lifeline brings 12 storytelling collectives and seven solo performers together for a three-week, multi-venue selection of powerful personal stories.

Lookingglass Theatre Company appoints Rachel L. Fink as its new Executive Director

Lookingglass Theatre Company’s Board of Directors announces the appointment of the theatre’s new Executive Director Rachel L. Fink. Fink will begin her tenure at Lookingglass on February 19, 2018. She succeeds Rachel Kraft, who stepped down as Executive Director after 12 years with the company.

Chicago Shakespeare begins rehearsals for Short Shakespeare! A Midsummer Night’s Dream

Chicago Shakespeare Theater (CST) begins rehearsals for Short Shakespeare! A Midsummer Night’s Dream—a 75-minute abridgment of William Shakespeare’s riotous tale of mismatched love among mischievous fairies, young lovers and an amateur theatrical troupe of local workers. Directed and adapted by Jess McLeod and featuring a power-packed ensemble cast, this production will bring the magic to life for 1,000 students each day in the innovative, new venue The Yard at Chicago Shakespeare during its six-week run. Short Shakespeare! A Midsummer Night’s Dream will be performed for the public on Saturdays February 3–March 10, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m.

Barrel of Monkeys Presents THAT’S WEIRD, GRANDMA: Stories for Change January 22 – February 19 at Neo-Futurist Theater

Barrel of Monkeys is pleased to present THAT’S WEIRD, GRANDMA: Stories for Change, an evening of stories showcasing the fascinating, poignant and often hilarious ideas students have for the change they’d like to see in their lives and their communities. The stories are created during Barrel of Monkeys’ creative writing residencies in Chicago elementary schools, where one day is dedicated to learning how to write for change. The student-written stories are then adapted for the stage and performed by Barrel of Monkeys Company members.

BOHO THEATRE OPENS 2018 SEASON WITH CYRANO, A FRESH REIMAGINING OF THE CLASSIC LOVE STORY

BoHo Theatre opens its 2018 season with the Chicago premiere of CYRANO, adapted by Michael Hollinger and Aaron Posner, based on the play by Edmond Rostand, and directed by BoHo Artistic Affiliate Steve O’Connell. This sharp, lean, nine-person translation of the classic French love story keeps the poetry, but ditches the pretension to create a work full of energy, passion, and theatrical artistry.

As its inaugural production LIZZIE enters its final two weeks of performances, Firebrand Theatre is pleased to announce casting for the second and final production of its inaugural season, the musical comedy 9 TO 5 THE MUSICAL, playing April 7 – May 20, 2018 at The Den Theatre's Bookspan Theatre, 1333 N. Milwaukee Ave. in Chicago’s Wicker Park neighborhood. Firebrand is the first musical theatre company committed to employing and empowering women by expanding opportunities on and off the stage.

Fin Coe and Stephanie Shum Named The New Colony’s New Co-Artistic Directors

The Board of Directors of The New Colony is pleased to announce the appointment of Fin Coe and Stephanie Shum as the company’s new Co-Artistic Directors. Coe and Shum succeed Founding Members and Co-Artistic Directors Andrew Hobgood and Evan Linder, who will step down in January 2018 at the conclusion of the company’s ninth season.
