Join the Northwest Indiana Symphony Orchestra and Music Director/Conductor Kirk Muspratt for their 80+20 Season of Anniversaries, celebrating 80 years of the Symphony and 20 years of Maestro Muspratt. The season will start with three performances of the annual Holiday Pops concert in December and conclude in June 2022. All concerts will be performed at the Auditorium at Living Hope Church, 9000 Taft Street, on the Merrillville/Crown Point border.
The Northwest Indiana Symphony Orchestra began in Gary, Indiana, on December 7, 1941. As the nation pulled together on that momentous day, a group of individuals, without hesitation or prompts, burst into “The Star Spangled Banner” and played to a grieving audience, recovering from the day’s events. Now 80 years later, the Symphony is happy to return to performing for its community.
“I want to thank everyone for welcoming this Canadian musician into your lives,” Maestro Muspratt has reflected on his 20th Anniversary. “I hope I have contributed something of beauty and joy into yours.”
The 2021-22 season kicks off with three performances of the beloved Holiday Pops, December 7, 9 and 10. Pianist Wail Farouk returns to perform masterpieces by Rachmaninoff and Gershwin at two performances March 3 and 4. Movie soundtracks and classical music used in the movies mix at two performances May 5 and 6. The season concludes with guest artists Aj Swearingen and Jayne Kelli performing “Iconic Hits of the 70s,” with two performances June 16 and 17.
Additionally, the Symphony will hold a Gala dinner before the March 4 concert. More information will be available after the new year.
Supporters of the Symphony can also join the 80+20 Anniversary Club! With a donation of $100 (or more) per person, patrons will be listed all season long on the 80+20 Club Honor Roll and will be invited to a special pre-concert party before the December 7 Holiday Pops concert to celebrate the 80th Anniversary of that first performance.
Tickets for the concert range from $35-$75 each, concert season subscriptions are available, and GROUP SALES ARE AVAILABLE AT A DISCOUNT beginning at 10 people. Call the Symphony office at (219) 836-0525 or visit the website at www.NISOrchestra.org to order tickets.
