
South Shore Roller Derby (SSRD), a two-time “Best Sports Team in the Region” award winner, is bringing high-energy, full-contact action back to the Hammond Civic Center on Friday, April 18, with an exciting doubleheader featuring teams from across the Midwest.
The evening will showcase two matchups:

SSRD Runaways vs. Prairieland Punishers (Decatur, IL)
- SSRD Derailers vs. Lafayette Supernovas (Lafayette, IN)
Known for its fast pace, strategic gameplay, and electrifying atmosphere, modern roller derby is a family-friendly sport that combines athleticism, teamwork, and community spirit. Fans can expect an engaging night of entertainment, complete with big hits, quick footwork, and plenty of local pride on display.

South Shore Roller Derby, named Best Sports Team in the Region for the second year in a row, is a nonprofit organization dedicated to empowering athletes and building community connections throughout Northwest Indiana. Their bouts regularly draw 400–500 attendees, creating a vibrant and welcoming environment for both longtime fans and first-time spectators. The event will also feature local partnerships and community engagement efforts as part of SSRD’s ongoing mission to give back to the Region.
“Roller derby is one of those experiences you have to see live to fully appreciate,” said a league representative. “We’re excited to bring that energy back to Hammond and connect with the local community.”
Doors open at 5:00 PM, with the first whistle at 5:30 PM.
