The Young Playwrights Festival (YPF) celebrates the 32nd year of the program that inspires Chicago students to explore their histories, research their communities and mine their personal journeys to write dynamic one-act plays for the stage.

trawdog Theatre Company is pleased to continue its 31st season with THE REVOLUTIONISTS, Lauren M. Gunderson’s brutal comedic quartet about four very real women who lived boldly during the French Revolution’s Reign of Terror, directed by Denise Yvette Serna. THE REVOLUTIONISTS will play November 15 – December 29, 2018 at Strawdog’s new home at 1802 W. Berenice Ave. in Chicago’s Northcenter neighborhood. World Premiere! Hell in a Handbag Productions Presents "SnowGirls – The Musical" November 15 – December 30 at Mary’s Attic

Hell in a Handbag Productions rings in the holidays with the world premiere of SnowGirls – The Musical, a parody of the classic cult film Showgirls. Featuring a book by Derek Van Barham, music by Artistic Director David Cerda* with Scott Lamberty and Jeff Thomson, direction by Jon Martinez and music direction by JD Caudill. SnowGirls will play November 15 – December 30, 2018 at Mary’s Attic, 5400 N. Clark St. in Chicago’s Andersonville neighborhood. Casting will be announced shortly. Underscore Theatre Company Presents WIFE MATERIAL

Underscore Theatre Company is pleased to launch its 2018-19 season with WIFE MATERIAL, Jamie Shriner’s raunchy musical comedy following one woman's journey through sex, love, marriage and how we define ourselves. Directed by Dana Anderson, with music direction by Kyra Leigh, WIFE MATERIAL will play November 8 – December 9, 2018 at Underscore’s new-remodeled, permanent home, The Understudy, 4609 N. After years of anticipation, the long-awaited dream of a new theater on Howard Street in Evanston will become a reality on December 7 when Theo Ubique Cabaret Theatre begins previews for David Yazbek and Terrence McNally’s musical THE FULL MONTY, the kickoff show in its new 85-seat home.

Steppenwolf Theatre Presents the Chicago Premiere Production of Familiar

Steppenwolf Theatre Company presents the Chicago premiere production of Familiar written by Danai Gurira (Michonne on The Walking Dead, Marvel Studios’ Black Panther, Eclipsed on Broadway) and directed by Danya Taymor, who helmed Steppenwolf’s powerful 2017 production of Pass Over. This family comedy features ensemble members Celeste M. Cooper (Nyasha) and Ora Jones (Marvelous Chinyaramwira), who appeared together in Steppenwolf’s The Doppelgänger (an international farce) last season. Rounding out the cast are Cheryl Lynn Bruce (Anne), Erik Hellman (Chris), Lanise Antoine Shelley, (Tendikayi), Luigi Sottile (Brad), Jacqueline Williams (Margaret Munyewa) and Cedric Young (Donald Chinyaramwira).

Raúl Esparza takes on title role in Chicago Shakespeare’s "Hamlet"

Chicago Shakespeare Theater announces that four-time Tony Award nominee and Law and Order: SVU alum Raúl Esparza will lead William Shakespeare’s Hamlet, staged by Artistic Director Barbara Gaines, in the Courtyard Theater, April 17–June 9, 2019. Esparza takes on the iconic title role of a grief-stricken Prince of Denmark as he attempts to navigate his father’s death, betrayal, and relationships torn asunder in one of the great masterworks of Western literature. Complete casting to be announced in the coming months.
