This morning (10/3/2019) at 2:30 a.m., a two vehicle rollover crash on I-80/94 east bound at the 8.6 mile marker (Grant Street) resulted in a service dog fleeing the scene.
Preliminary investigation by Trooper William Carlson shows that a silver 2014 Chrysler Town and Country, driven by Brandon Jones of Merrillville, IN and a white 2017 Ford Fiesta, driven by Rodney Jones of Sheboygan, WI collided on the ramp to Grant St. The Ford overturned and came to rest in the south ditch.
The occupants of the Ford were in possession of a service dog. The dog is described as a small brown/white terrier and his name is "Jack". The dog is trained to assist the hearing impaired. It is believed that following the crash, the dog may have run onto or near Grant St as he was not located on the interstate.
The drivers and passengers were transported to Northlake Hospital in Gary for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries. The occupants of both vehicles were wearing seatbelts at the time of the crash and alcohol is not believed to be a factor.
Assisting at the scene were the Gary Fire Department and First Response Towing.
*Photos attached are of the scene and of "Jack".
*All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in court*
