The Northwestern Indiana Regional Planning Commission (NIRPC) will hold a 21-day public comment period on an amendment to the 2026-2030 Transportation Improvement Program (TIP). The comment period ends on April 27, 2026.

Amendment #26-06.1 contains:
For INDOT – 12 Projects:
- 2 Bridge Rehabilitations (1 Bridge Deck Overlay and 1 Bridge Painting) – Both increasing funds
- 1 Pavement/Roadway Rehabilitation Project; Maintenance – Increase funding
- 1 Sign Project – Repair/Replacement; district-wide – New project
- 1 District Lighting Project; Lake County – New project
- 1 Small Structure Repair/Lining/Replacements – Increase funding
- 1 Pedestrian Project; Sidewalks in Lake County – Increase funding
- 1 Pavement Marking; district-wide – Delete Project
- 4 Intersection Improvements; Lake & La Porte Counties; Three new projects and one Increasing funds
For locally sponsored projects – 5 Projects for the municipalities of Cedar Lake (1), La Porte County (1), NIRPC (1), & Porter County (2):
- Cedar Lake – Sign Modernization (Delete project)
- La Porte County – Bridge Replacement (New project)
- NIRPC – Purchase Trail counters for various communities (New project)
- Porter County – Two Bridge Replacements (New projects)
NIRPC’s TIP is a short-range financial and spending plan for the utilization of federal transportation funding and for regionally significant projects. These federal funds can be used for highway, transit, and non-motorized transportation projects. NIRPC's TIP includes projects undertaken by municipalities, counties, transit operators, and the State of Indiana. All comments received during the 21-day public comment period will be compiled into a public comment report and responded to. This report will be made available to the public and distributed to the relevant NIRPC committees prior to any action on these items. It is anticipated that action will be taken at the May 4, 2026, meeting of the Transportation Committee, followed by the May 21, 2026, meeting of the NIRPC Commission.
