The Season opens with the one woman show, Erma Bombeck – At Wit’s End by Margaret Engel and Allison Engel.  From the writers of the smash hit Red Hot Patriot: The Kick-Ass Wit of Molly Ivins comes a comic look at one of our country’s most beloved voices, who captured the frustrations of her generation by asking, “If life is a bowl of cherries, what am I doing in the pits?” Discover the story behind America’s beloved humorist who championed women’s lives with wit that sprang from the most unexpected place of all – the truth.  The show will be directed by Suzanne Nyhan Who has been seen on the Towle stage in Shirley Valentine, Mama’s Boy and directed The Smell of the Kill.  The show will star Laura MacGregor as Erma Bombeck.  Laura was last seen on the Towle stage in Good Boys and True. Erma Bombeck – At Wit’s End runs February 21-23, 28-29, March 1, 6-8, 2020.

The second show of the season is the musical Daddy Long Legs by Paul Gordon & John Caird. A heartwarming Cinderella story about a witty and winsome young woman and her mysterious benefactor, based on the treasured novel that inspired the classic 1955 film.  Top of Form

Daddy Long Legs is a beloved tale in the spirit of Jane Austen, The Brontë Sisters and “Downton Abbey.” Daddy Long Legs features music and lyrics by Tony Award-nominated composer/lyricist, Paul Gordon (Jane Eyre), and Tony-winning librettist/director, John Caird (Les Misérables), and is a “rags-to-riches” tale of newfound love. Performances are May 1-3, 8-9, 15-17, 2020.

The summer musical at the Towle is a World Premiere of Night Tide. The show was written by Nathania Wibowo and lyrics by Taylor Tash.  Night Tide is a new musical inspired by the 1961 mystery-thriller B movie of the same name.  The musical tells the kitschy and compelling tale of Johnny Drake, a lonely Naval sailor. As he enjoys his first shore leave exploring the boardwalks, tiki bars, and beach parties of a spooky seaside town, Johnny meets Mora, a seductive and mysterious young woman who works in the sideshow as a mermaid. Johnny immediately becomes smitten with Mora, but soon discovers that she may in fact be a real siren of the sea, and she may have lured her previous boyfriends to their watery graves...This musical runs July 10-12, 17-19, 24-26, 2020.

The final show of the 2020 season is the comedy, Hope & Gravity by Michael Hollinger.  When an elevator falls in a major city, nine lives intersect in surprising ways, both comic and tragic—through love and sex, poetry and dentistry; in offices, homes, and hotel rooms. Jill longs for Steve, who’s engaged to Barb, who hooks up with Peter, who’s already having an affair with Nan, who’s married to Marty, who subscribes to Elevator World. Meanwhile, nine stories off the ground, Douglas meets Tanya—who’s hoping to get pregnant with Hal—and a little miracle changes hands. By turns hilarious and profound, HOPE AND GRAVITY traces the barely perceivable threads that connect us all.  Bottom of Form

The performances for Hope & Gravity are September 4-6, 11-13, 18-20, 2020.
