Preliminary investigation by Trooper Daniel Connolly has revealed that for an unknown reason the motorcycle, a 2006 black Suzuki, was southbound when it left the roadway, entered the grassy median and struck the guardrail ejecting the driver Matthew Wayne Burton, 34 of Lafayette.into the median. The motorcycle continued southbound coming to rest on its side in the left lane.
Burton was transported by ambulance to IU Arnett Hospital in Lafayette with serious injuries. Interstate southbound was shutdown f or a short period for emergency personnel and Jim’s Wrecker Service to remove the motorcycle from the scene. Burton was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash. At this time it is unclear if drugs or alcohol were factors in the crash.
Assisting at the scene was the Tippecanoe County Sheriff’s Department. I have no pictures.
Suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
