A few weeks ago, Humane Indiana Wildlife admitted a young Red Fox with mange. Unfortunately for her, she was also attacked by the property owners' dog when the fox thought she could make an easy meal of the homeowners' chickens. Instead of acting with anger or aggression towards the fox, the homeowner instead showed compassion and set a humane trap, bringing the fox into our care for treatment.
This fox has the most immaculate teeth, leading our rehabilitation staff to believe the fox was born in 2025. Once she was brought to the center, rehabbers let her calm down from her car ride and then treated her wounds. She was started on antibiotics for her injuries, and Bravecto was administered to treat her mange. During her first night at the Wildlife Center, she ate her entire meal and was able to rest comfortably.

Today, our staff is happy to share that she is doing very well and improvements are already being noticed in her coat and injuries after starting her on medications! The most noticeable improvement is that her eyes are now open, and her fur is starting to soften as she begins to heal from mange. Her wounds, which had also been matted from dead skin, are now pink and look much better!
As this fox continues to receive care, it is our hope that she will ultimately return to life in the wild. The ability to care for animals like this fox, and countless others, is only possible thanks to the support we receive from our generous community.
