Shortly after 4 p.m., Indiana Conservation Officers and the Floyd County Sheriff’s Department responded to the 4400 block of Skyline Drive for reports of an ORV accident with injuries.
Once on scene, officers located Thomas Sonne, 69, of Floyds Knobs, unresponsive in the roadway under an overturned ORV. Sonne was pronounced dead at the scene by the Floyd County Coroner’s Office.
Preliminary investigation revealed that the ORV struck a guardrail, overturning and ejecting Sonne.
Sonne was not wearing a helmet at the time of the accident. Indiana Conservation Officers strongly encourage riders to always wear a helmet and use necessary safety equipment when operating an ORV.
The accident still under investigation by Indiana Conservation Officers.
Assisting agencies included the Lafayette Township Fire Department and New Chapel EMS.
