Free youth hunting days, Nov. 28-29
Introduce the next generation to hunting on free youth hunting days. The second set of dates falls on Nov. 28-29. Free youth hunting days are a great chance for youth to harvest a deer, try out waterfowl hunting, or take to the fields or forest in search of other game.
Youth must be accompanied by an adult who is at least 18 years of age and the adult must possess a valid hunting license.
During free youth hunting days, resident youth or nonresident youth do not need a hunting license, a State migratory waterfowl stamp, or a Harvest Information Program (HIP) number to hunt waterfowl or other migratory birds. All persons 16 years or older must possess a federal duck stamp.
Deer firearms season begins Nov. 14
Hunters are getting ready for deer firearms season, Nov. 14–29. All property visitors should be aware of their surroundings – hunters are required to wear hunter orange during deer firearms season and should be easy to spot. Non-hunters should consider wearing hunter orange if they plan to venture off-trail.
Questions about deer seasons and regulations can be directed to the Deer Hotline at INDeerHotline@dnr.IN.gov or call 812-334-3795, 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. ET, Monday through Friday.

Accessible all-terrain wheelchairs added at Indiana Dunes SP
Three new all-terrain accessible wheelchairs were added for guest use at Indiana Dunes State Park.
These chairs join a pool of several others available in Indiana State Parks to make trails more readily available to Hoosiers who need such assistance.
These chairs for Indiana Dunes State Park were purchased by the Friends of Indiana Dunes, who were given discounted pricing from McCabe Outdoor Mobility. Two of the chairs are designed for use on trails, and one chair is designed for use on the beach.
The Dunes ATV chairs will be located at the Nature Center from Labor Day through Memorial Day. Guests may reserve chairs by calling 219-926-1390. The chairs to use on the park’s beach can be borrowed through the lifeguards from Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day weekend.
Celebrating access and opportunity in the outdoors
It’s the 30th anniversary of the year the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) was signed into law. DNR is proud to provide fishing access to all Hoosiers through several ADA-accessible public access sites and fishing areas. Find accessible sites near you on the Where to Fish Map by selecting the ADA accessible filter.

Outdoor Indiana Calendar Issue
The state’s best magazine includes the state’s best 2021 wall calendar in the November-December issue, which also features an article on the 30-year anniversary of the Indiana Natural Resources Foundation. The calendar sells separately for $10 but is included in the price of a $15, one-year subscription. View excerpts of that issue and subscribe as a gift to someone else—or yourself.
The Foundation celebrates and preserves Indiana’s natural legacy by raising funds to support the Indiana Department of Natural Resources and its programs.
