The Munster Police Department would like to notify residents that we will unfortunately have to postpone our National Night Out Against Crime plans, which were originally scheduled to take place on August 4th, out of an abundance of caution and the changes presented in the Governor’s Executive Order to “pause” in Phase 4.5. The National Association of Town Watch has provided a back-up date in early October for communities to hold their National Night Out events, and we hope to be able to announce a new event date along with any possible plans as soon as we have them ready. Any plans will be based on the health situation in our state at that time.
Several residents and businesses were set to receive Citizenship Awards on August 4th and we will make sure that they receive them and that they are recognized through social media for their dedication and support of our community policing programs and initiatives during past years. We also provided our Poster Contest winner with her prizes this past week (more about this year’s winner in a separate article).
We would like to provide a special thank you to Greg Kaplan from Krazy Kaplan’s Fireworks who had once again been willing to generously provide a fireworks show for our residents that evening, and also greatly appreciate our other generous sponsors who were supporting our event this year (our sponsors will be listed in a future edition of this newsletter and on social media when we hold the October activities). We also appreciate the many volunteers, businesses, faith-based groups, and community organizations who were ready to participate in our parade that evening which we were very much looking forward to holding in addition to the fireworks show and award presentations.
Again, we hope to be able to announce any possible event plans for early October, most likely by early September, depending on the health situation at that time and while considering the safety for our residents.
