This past August 5th, the Munster Police Department and Choice Community Council hosted Munster’s 30th Annual National Night Out Celebration in the area of the Munster Community Pool. The event is held each year to promote positive police and community partnerships in our town through a large variety of activities including a closing fireworks show sponsored by Krazy Kaplan’s Fireworks.
In addition to the main event, a number of pre-events were held during the week leading up to the main celebration including a volunteer appreciation dinner, bike rodeo, family movie night, canned food rive, senior safety bingo event, and block party contest in an effort to promote safety and unity in our community and to build excitement for the main event as the date approached.
This past week, the Munster Police Department was notified by the National Association of Town Watch that Munster’s 2025 event was ranked as the #1 National Night Out event in the United States for our population category of 15,000-50,000 people. For this honor, our town will be receiving the National Night Out Cup (a trophy) during the coming month. The top 10 from our population category are displayed to the right. Over 15,000 communities participate in the National Night Out each year so this is a great honor for our town.
The Munster Police Department would like to thank everyone who set up booths, provided donations, and the record number who attended the event this year. We also greatly appreciate the our town employees who provided their facilities, promoted, set up equipment or booths, interacted with the public, and provided other support and staff for our activities. Thank you as well to the dedicated members of the Choice Community Council for planning this event throughout the year and the large number of volunteers who came out that night to work tables, set-up, direct participants, pass out safety materials, and to interact with the public in a positive way.
Munster’s National Night Out Celebration continues to be one of largest events of the year in our town due to great support from our town employees, schools, businesses, faith-based organizations, and community service organizations. We look forward to beginning plans for next year’s event, scheduled for August 4th, this spring. If you are interested in getting involved with the Choice Community Council, please contact Sergeant James Ghrist at jghrist@munster.org. Congratulations again to our Munster community!
