Currently, there are approximately 100 active Neighborhood Crime Watch groups throughout Munster which are headed up by dedicated volunteers. Crime Watch Captains have the following duties:
Providing information to their neighbors about the Neighborhood Crime Watch Program through flyers which are provided by the police department. These can be placed inside the doors of your neighbors.
Forwarding the Neighborhood Crime Watch Weekly Report (this report) by e-mail to your neighbors who have joined up with the program by contacting you by e-mail.
Passing along other safety information by e-mail to your group’s members from time to time when requested to do so by the police department.
Attending quarterly Munster Crime Watch Meetings when able to do so (not mandatory to do so). Active groups will have signage (pictured above left) posted in their area by the Munster Police Department and window stickers will be provided to members who request them.
If you would like more information about setting up a Neighborhood Crime Watch group on your block, please contact Officer James Ghrist at 219-836-6639 or jghrist@munster.org.
