The Munster Police Explorers meet several times a month at the police station and learn about various aspects of law enforcement from police officers. Explorers also help out with events throughout the year in Munster and once fully trained are able to go on periodic ride-alongs with Munster Police officers.
Explorers are uniformed, but have no police powers and are there only to learn about the law enforcement role while providing community service to our town. Police Explorers also have the opportunity to attend National Law Enforcement Exploring Conferences with the other post members every other year, where they are able to learn from federal and state law enforcement agencies, compete in a variety of events, and attend other fun activities with the post.
If your child is interested in participating, please ask them to see Officer Gabe Isenblatter, the Munster Police Explorers Post Advisor, at Munster High School for an application. You can also download one from the Munster Police Department’s website located at www.munster.org/police (go to the Explorers sidebar), after which they can be turned in at the station in care of Officer Isenblatter.
A number of our Munster Police Explorers have gone on to successful law enforcement careers, some with the Munster Police Department. For more information about the Munster Police Explorers, please contact Officer Isenblatter at 219-836-6622 or gisenblatter@munster.org.
