The Miller Beach Arts & Creative District is proud to announce that it has received $11,642 in grant funding from Legacy Foundation, Lake County’s community foundation, to support arts education and the development of a new arts instructional space called The Annex at 541 S. Lake Street. This support reflects the Foundation's commitment to strengthening our community's cultural resources.
The MBACD is a community visual and performing arts organization founded in 2012 to be a dynamic hub of creative, cultural, and economic activity, and to catalyze community regeneration, sustainability, and an enriched quality of life in Miller Beach, the city of Gary, and the surrounding region.
In April 2025, the MBACD acquired the 541 S. Lake Street building. This grant from Legacy will help create a dedicated space for artists to work, for students to take part in classes, and for the organization to offer more programming that benefits the entire community. The arts programming space will house classes in a variety of media, including printmaking, drawing, textiles, and workshops with exhibiting artists, all designed to inspire and engage community members.
Legacy Foundation invests in nonprofit services and capacity-building efforts throughout Lake County, Ind. Since its founding in 1992, Legacy Foundation has awarded $40 million in grants and scholarships to nonprofit organizations and individuals, made possible by the generosity of a broad base of donors.
