Lowell Trooper Promoted to Squad Sergeant

Lowell District- Indiana State Police Superintendent Anthony Scott has announced the promotion of Trooper Alexander V. Fuertes to the rank of Sergeant. In his new role, Sergeant Fuertes will serve as a squad leader at the Lowell District. His promotion followed a competitive process that included a written test, an oral interview, and a comprehensive evaluation of his work performance.

A native of Virginia Beach, VA, Sergeant Fuertes is a 2001 graduate of Tallwood High School. After high school, he attended a language academy in the country of Peru while living with family and backpacked throughout most of Latin America. Upon return, he attended Old Dominion University and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in international studies and minored in Latin American Studies.

He served honorably for over six years in the Washington D.C. and Indiana Army National Guards as a member of the military police, where he achieved the rank of 1st Lieutenant. He held various positions to include Platoon Leader and Provost Marshal.

Sergeant Fuertes served as a patrol officer and a tactical team member in the Chicago Police Department from 2015 to 2021. His time there included an insurmountable number of criminal investigations, civil unrest deployments, and special event mobilizations. His career with the Chicago Police Department was decorated with many honorable mentions, department commendations, and ultimately the Superintendent’s Award of Valor.

Sergeant Fuertes is a graduate of the 81st Indiana State Police Recruit Academy where he served as a squad leader and achieved the “Top Shot” Firearms Excellence Award. Upon graduation, he was assigned to the Lowell Post, where he worked as a road patrol trooper in Lake County. Throughout his career, he has served the Indiana State Police as an FTO (field training officer), background investigator, member of the mobile field force team, and oral interview panel member for new applicants. Additionally, he served as a recruit counselor for the 86th and 87th Indiana State Police Academy classes at the Indiana Law Enforcement Academy.  Sergeant Fuertes resides in Lake County with his wife and three children.
