Foals born in 2019 must have a completed application on file within 12 months of the horse’s foaling date. If the foal is not registered by this date, a late fee will be assessed in accordance to the following schedule:
12 months + 1 day to December 31 of yearling year à $200
2 Year Old Year à $400
3 Year Old Year à $1,000
Any Quarter Horse foaled in the state of Indiana must have his dam registered with the program. Mares should have entered the state by July 1 in the year prior to foaling, and remain in Indiana continuously until foaling. They should have their registration on file by July 1.
However, mares entering the state of Indiana are still invited to register with the program to have a certified Indiana-bred foal. If they enter the state, and register with the program, after July 1, they must breed back to an Indiana stallion after foaling.
Breeders must remember that just because the mare is registered with the program, the process is only half-way complete—all foals must be registered as well.
Additional requirements are in place for mares who are part of an embryo transfer group. The Program asks that breeders contact the Indiana Horse Racing Commission for these requirements. Breeders of a registered Indiana-bred which places first, second or third in any race (except trials and claiming races of less than $5,000) or any speed index race at Indiana Grand Racing & Casino in Shelbyville has the ability to earn up to $5,000 in restricted races and $2,500 in open races. Indiana stallion owners and owners of registered Indiana-bred horses have the ability to win the same, making it one of the more lucrative programs in the region.
