30 Years of Protecting Archaeology Sites
2019 marks the 30th anniversary of Indiana’s law protecting archaeological sites. What was originally enacted in 1989 as Indiana Code 14-3-3.4 and protected sites dating before Indiana’s statehood date (Dec. 11, 1816), later was recodified to Indiana Code 14-21-1 and now protects sites dating before Dec. 31, 1870. Through these years, many sites have been investigated and protected. Learn more about this important statute.

Remembering History in Indiana Student’s Work in Public History
Every year the DNR-DHPA sponsors an intern from the IUPUI Public History Program. This year-long internship allows the student to learn about history, preservation, and archaeology along with the programs administered by the DHPA. Starting in August, our intern (Jessica Petty) has been working on a variety of projects related to outreach and research. But her interest and work in history started long before she ever stepped foot through our doors. Her recent successful project – to memorialize Ryan White with an Indiana Historical Bureau historical marker is worth telling. Read about Jessica’s project.
Archaeology Guidebook
