Crown Point- At approximately 4:50 a.m. today, Trooper Jaylen Holt-Terry was traveling eastbound on 93rd Avenue in Crown Point. As he proceeded through the intersection at Monroe Street, a 2017 Cadillac XT5 lost control, slid through the intersection, and struck the passenger side of his fully marked police Charger.
Trooper Jarah Burgin responded to conduct the crash investigation. During the course of that investigation, probable cause was established to initiate an Operating While Intoxicated (O.W.I.) investigation into the driver of the Cadillac, identified as Javan L. Mason, 45, of Crown Point, IN.
Based on Trooper Burgin’s observations, a certified chemical test for intoxication was offered. Mr. Mason registered a .17% B.A.C., more than twice the legal limit of .08% in Indiana. He was subsequently transported to the Lake County Jail, where he was booked on a preliminary charge of Operating While Intoxicated- Class A Misdemeanor.
Trooper Holt-Terry was transported to a local hospital, where he was treated for his injuries and later released. All suspects are presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty in a court of law.
