Fri, 09/05/2025 - 5:14pm by laughingcat

Dunes Arts Summer Theatre closes the 2025 season with the Third Annual New Plays in Progress Festival “Voices from the Heartland,” with performances at 7 p.m. CST (8 p.m. EST) Thursday, September 18 through Saturday, September 20, and 2 p.m. CST (3 p.m. EST) Sunday, September 21.

“Voices from the Heartland” is the Dunes Summer Theatre’s annual showcase of new plays by writers in northwest Indiana and southwest Michigan, presented in concert readings. "This is one of my favorite events of our summer season, giving our audiences a chance to discover the talents of five truly noteworthy Northwest Indiana writers,” says Dunes Summer Theatre’s Artistic Director Steve Scott. “We'll be unveiling three full length plays and two one-acts; and this year we'll also be reading excerpts from two additional plays at the Lubeznik Center for the Arts on Friday, September 5. Several plays from previous festivals have already been slated for full production at local theaters, and I have no doubt that some of this year's works will have a long life on stages around the region and country." Full performance listing is as follows:
