
The Department of Homeland Security/FEMA Grants Management announced this week that Gary has been approved for the 2018 SAFER (Staffing for Adequate Fire and Emergency Response) grant created to provide funding directly to fire departments to assist in maintaining an adequate number of frontline fire personnel.
“We are excited to receive this grant that will specifically be used to enhance public safety for the residents of Gary," said Mayor Karen Freeman-Wilson. "I congratulate Chief Bradley and the members of the Gary Fire Department and the Grants team on this win. I also thank Congressman Pete Visclosky for his continued support of the city of Gary.”
