Chicago Fire FC will travel for the third consecutive week to face off against Orlando City SC at Exploria Stadium on Saturday, March 14. The Fire earned their first point of the 2020 MLS campaign with a 1-1 tie against the New England Revolution yesterday afternoon. The match against Orlando is set to kick off at 6:30 p.m. CT and will be broadcast live on WGN-TV and ESPN+ and transmitted in Spanish on TUDN Radio WRTO 1200 AM. The pregame show, presented by CIBC, will begin on ESPN+ at 6:15 p.m. CT.
Chicago heads to Exploria Stadium with a 4-2-5 record against Orlando. Led by head coach Oscar Pareja, Orlando kicked off the 2020 MLS campaign with a scoreless draw against Real Salt Lake on Feb. 29, before falling 2-1 on the road against the Colorado Rapids on March 7.
Chicago Fire FC Special Olympics Unified Team
Chicago Fire Football Club is pleased to announce that former Fire player Michael Stephens will lead the coaching staff for the Club’s Special Olympics Unified Team for the 2020 season. Stephens, a two-time MLS Cup winner, played with the Fire during the 2015 and 2016 seasons, making 37 appearances and recording six assists. A Chicago native, he currently works for U.S. Soccer as a scout for the U.S. Men’s National Team.
“I attended Chicago Fire Special Olympics games as a fan while playing,” said Stephens. “So, I had no hesitation when the Fire approached me about doing this — I can’t think of a better way to start my coaching career.”
The 2020 season will be the sixth in which Chicago Fire FC has taken part in the MLS-wide program, which unites individuals with intellectual disabilities (Special Olympics athletes) and individuals without intellectual disabilities (Unified partners) as members of one team. The team will play three games this year, against unified teams from Colorado Rapids, LA Galaxy and Inter Miami. Current Chicago Fire first team player Brandt Bronico is a Special Olympics Illinois ambassador.
