“I began discussing my future with Owner and Chairman Joe Mansueto last month. At this transformational time for the organization, and after five years with the Fire, I’m ready for a change and I’m looking forward to taking on new challenges,” said Rodríguez. “I always tried to do what was best for the Club and I am grateful to Joe for his enormous support and to Andrew Hauptman for the opportunity originally given to me. The Club is moving in an exciting direction and I wish the team, the staff and fans the very best of luck.”
“For five years, Nelson has dedicated himself and given his everything to the Club,” said Mansueto. “He has helped me tremendously over the course of our first year working together and I am grateful for that. We thank him for his loyal service to the Fire and we wish him all the best moving forward.”
Rodríguez originally joined the Fire in September 2015 as General Manager. In January 2018, he took on an expanded role as President and GM. In 2020, Rodríguez began focusing solely on all business areas of the Club, namely the Fire’s transition back to the city of Chicago and Soldier Field.

CHICAGO (25 de enero de 2021) – Chicago Fire FC esta mañana anunció que el presidente Nelson Rodríguez ha renunciado a su cargo.
“Comencé a discutir mi futuro con el propietario Joe Mansueto el mes pasado. En este momento de transformación para la organización, y después de cinco años con el Fire, estoy listo para un cambio y estoy ansioso por asumir nuevos desafíos”, dijo Rodríguez. “Siempre traté de hacer lo mejor para el Club y estoy agradecido con Joe por su enorme apoyo y con Andrew Hauptman por la oportunidad que se me brindó originalmente. El Club avanza en una dirección emocionante y le deseo mucha suerte al equipo, al personal y a los aficionados”.

Rodríguez se unió originalmente al Fire en septiembre del 2015 como Gerente General. En enero del 2018, asumió un papel ampliado como presidente y director general. En 2020, Rodríguez comenzó a enfocarse únicamente en todas las áreas comerciales del Club, principalmente el regreso del Fire a la ciudad de Chicago y al Soldier Field.
