The Christmas trees line the sidewalk near the gazebo in Chesterton’s downtown Thomas Centennial Park. The trees are sponsored and decorated by local not for profits and businesses to bring awareness and joy to those visiting the park, across from the downtown business district.
This year’s tree sponsored by the Chesterton Art Center was masterfully decorated with works of master artists, such as Monet, Chagall, Van Gogh, Grant Wood, Degas, and many more, thanks to the talent of local artist and CAC board member Janel Borsos.
Ms. Borsos, an accomplished artist herself, painted in oil and canvas 18 small renditions of famous paintings by the Masters, and these have been color copied and presented on the Art Center’s tree for all to enjoy. Janel beautifully captured the likenesses of these famous works, and the original artist is named on the back. The Art Center appreciated the time and effort that she put into creating these miniature oil paintings, which took a year to finish. She plans to gift several of her little paintings to special friends this holiday season. The remainder will be available for sale at the Art Center. We hope that as visitors stroll through the park, they will stop to see how many paintings they recognize.
Currently, the Art Center features works by their artist members in both downstairs galleries as well as artisan gifts such as ceramics, fiber, hand crafted jewelry, and glassware in the gift shop. Hours of operation are 11 am to 4 pm Monday through Friday and 10 am to 2 pm on Saturday.
