
Bishop Dwenger High School senior Samantha Shultz, daughter of Master Trooper Brad Shultz (ISP Fort Wayne) and Elizabeth Shultz, has signed to shoot collegiate rifle with the University of Akron, Ohio. The Akron Zips are currently ranked 4th in NCAA.
Samantha started shooting in her grandfather's backyard and joined competitive shooting in 8th grade. Samantha has been a captain for the XCount rifle team here in Fort Wayne for the past 3 years. She holds the Indiana state record for 3P Air Rifle, auto qualified for Junior Olympic air rifle last year, qualified 4th individually and was part of the 5th place air rifle team at the 2019 National competition at Fort Benning, Georgia. She is a key member of the XCount team contributing to many team state championships over the last four years in Smallbore, IA Air Rifle and 3 Position Air Rifle, and was the first female recipient of the Tom Lorenzen Award (highest aggregate of the three disciplines at state). Her personal records are a 596/600 in standing air rifle and 578/600 in smallbore.
In addition to her accomplished shooting skills, Samantha maintains a very impressive 4.2 GPA and volunteers with the veteran rifle program on Wednesdays at the XCount range facility. As Samantha moves into her next chapter of life, she plans on majoring in Biomedical Science at Akron in her pursuit to becoming an anesthesiologist.
