Bicycle Safety Tips for Residents

  1. Home

Wed, 09/30/2020 - 4:59pm by laughingcat

 Always wear a helmet, which dramatically reduce the risk of head injuries.

 Avoid wearing ear buds or headphones as this will prevent you from hearing other traffic, including emergency vehicles or horns.

 Follow ALL traffic laws. Bicyclists are required to obey all regulatory signs and traffic lights. Ride in a single file except when passing.

 Use hand signals to tell motorists, cyclists, and pedestrians what you intend to do.

 Use bicycle lights at night and attempt to wear something that is reflective to make you more visible to motorists, pedestrians, and other bicyclists.

 Be careful at intersections. Use caution since most collisions occur at intersections. Be alert for turning vehicles and use crosswalk signal controls before proceeding across.

 Never ride against traffic. Ride with traffic to avoid potential crashes.

 Always be alert. Scan the road and be aware of your surroundings.
