Call for Award Nominations

The Governor’s Arts Awards were established by the Indiana Arts Commission and the Office of the Governor to recognize individuals, communities, and organizations who have made significant contributions to the arts or cultural life of Indiana. These biennial awards are Indiana’s highest honor in the arts, celebrating the outstanding contributions of artists, arts organizations, volunteers, schools, educators, local governments, legislators and corporate citizens on the state, national or international level. Each award winner receives an original piece of artwork created specifically for the event by an Indiana artist and the opportunity to share their story with other arts supporters statewide at a public celebration in October of 2020.

In 2018 an inaugural "emerging artist" award went to musician and Fort Wayne native Addison Agen. The Governor's Arts Awards will continue this tradition of recognizing and encouraging the work of emerging artists in Indiana, thus nominations in this special category are also encouraged.

Call for Award Design and Fabrication

In addition to the call for nominations, the Indiana Arts Commission is issuing a call to Indiana-based individuals or teams interested in designing and fabricating the 2020 Governor’s Arts Awards.

Seven awards will be created, five will be presented to awardees, one will remain with the Indiana Arts Commission, and one will remain with the Office of the Governor.

The budget for the seven awards is $7,000 inclusive of all expenses including design, fabrication, travel, taxes, and artist fees. Awards should be created with durable material and be of an appropriate size and weight to be awarded on stage as part of a public event. It is our preference that the awards include an interactive or technology-assisted element (e.g., illumination, kinetic), but it is not required.
