EXHIBITION SUMMARY

Vintage Couple
In an exhibition covering over five decades of work, Larry Lapidus’ photographs offer a unique perspective that captures decisive moments in the lives of his subjects. The importance of visual composition, as well as the careful deployment of texture and layering, enhances the viewer’s experience, drawing them into the narrative of each image. Working in the traditional 35mm film medium and printing on silver nitrate paper, these works speak to the close connection between the photographer, subject, and process that enabled the artist’s eyes and senses to play their most effective roles.
The Marshall J. Gardner Center for the Arts opens the exhibit with an artist reception on Friday, October 17, at 6 pm, followed by an artist talk with Mr. Lapidus on November 2 at 2 pm. All events are free and open to the public.

ARTIST BIO:
Larry Lapidus achieved his earliest successes during his years in New York City, where he became highly sought after for his headshot photography of performers in the creative arts. After an accomplished career in New York, he returned to Chicago, where he continues to pursue a wide range of creative work. His photographic series has included images taken in Italy, France, and Mexico, each of which has been presented in solo exhibitions. One of his most recognized projects, FACES, is a striking portrait series of actors, erotic men, personal friends & celebrities. More recently, he has sponsored fundraisers highlighting the many faces of the Miller Beach community.
He is an avid film connoisseur—particularly of 1940s black-and-white cinema—and also enjoys gardening, mentoring others, Thai cuisine, photography & painting. A dedicated supporter of opera and theater, Larry is an MBACD donor, active in both the Chicago cultural scene and the Metropolitan Opera in New York City.
