Recently, Wilbur Wright MS Resource Officer Kevin Cooley attended the Police Crisis Intervention Team (CIT) program training at Griffith High School with a number of other officers and community members.
This program is a community partnership focused on improving law enforcement’s response to individuals experiencing mental health crises. It’s a collaborative effort between law enforcement, mental health professionals, individuals with mental illnesses, and their families. CIT programs aim to enhance safety, reduce arrest of individuals with mental illness, and increase referrals to appropriate mental health services.
Several additional Munster Police officers have also completed this training during the past few years.
