As Trooper Wiley was walking up to the vehicle, the driver, identified as Bryan Rhoden of Atlanta GA, fled from the stop. Trooper Wiley pursued the vehicle for approximately three miles, before it was terminated after reaching speeds of 150MPH with heavy traffic conditions.

Trooper Corey Brown was stationary in the crossover near the 177 MM in Tippecanoe County, and observed the Jeep pass him, still in excess of 100MPH. The Jeep came into heavy traffic, and began passing on the right shoulder. Sgt. Larry Mote was traveling southbound in the right lane, near the 176 MM. This is in the construction zone, just before the Wabash River Bridge. Shortly thereafter, Sgt. Mote witnessed the Jeep pass him on the right shoulder. The driver, not realizing that there was a lane shift and the shoulder ended, cut across both lanes of traffic to the left, striking the temporary barrier wall. The Jeep then cut back across both lanes to the right, striking a guard rail and the bridge parapet before coming to rest.

Trooper Brown and Sgt. Mote were able to detain both occupants after the crash. The passenger, Daniel Noel, also of Atlanta GA, was cooperative with the investigation, and released from the scene. Neither were injured. Trooper Brown was unable to initiate a second pursuit before the Jeep crashed. Mr. Rhoden was arrested and transported to the White County Jail, and is being charged with the following:

  • Jeep 3Resisting Law Enforcement – Level 6 Felony
  • Aggressive Driving – Class A Misdemeanor
  • Reckless Driving – Class C Misdemeanor
  • Reckless Driving in Work Zone - Class A Misdemeanor - Tippecanoe County

Assisting at the scene was Sgt. Brad Mull, and Joey’s Enterprise Services. Photos below.
