
UPDATE- The following information is being updated to the original news release. This incident has been determined to be an officer involved shooting where two officers with the New Chicago Police Department fired their weapons at the suspect inside the residence. The suspect was pronounced deceased at the scene by the Lake County Coroner's Office. Identification of the deceased, as well as the original deceased subject that was found by the 911 caller, will be made by the Lake County Coroner. This remains an active investigation and once it is completed, it will be submitted to the Lake County Prosecutor for final review.

New Chicago- On September 20th, 2025, the Indiana State Police District #13 Investigations Division was requested to investigate an officer involved shooting that occurred in New Chicago. Preliminary information shows that on September 20th at approximately 3:30 p.m., Hobart Fire Department Paramedics and the New Chicago Police Department responded to a 911 call at 216 Huber Boulevard, Hobart, IN (New Chicago) for a report of a deceased subject inside of that residence. While at the residence, the co-owner who was also the 911 caller, became agitated with the officers. The officers requested an ambulance respond to the scene for a psychological evaluation to be performed on the agitated individual.
At approximately 4:30 p.m., New Chicago Police radioed to dispatch shots being fired inside the residence. The subject was later found deceased inside the residence by officers and medics. No officers were injured during the incident.
Identification of the deceased will be released by the Lake County Coroner once family notification has been made. An autopsy will also be completed. This is an active investigation, and no further information can be released at this time. Once the investigation is completed, it will be turned over to the Lake County Prosecutor’s Office for review. Inquiries as to the identification of the officers involved in this incident and their status should be directed to the New Chicago Police Department.
