Indiana State Police Superintendent Anthony Scott is pleased to announce the promotion of Sergeant Jeremy Piers to the rank of First Sergeant. Piers will serve as the Assistant District Commander of the Lafayette District.

The selection process for promotion to First Sergeant included a written examination, an oral interview, and consideration of each candidate’s years of service, education, and past job performance. Superintendent Scott selected Piers for promotion following the competitive process.

Piers is a native of Washington, Illinois, and graduated from Washington Community High School in 2012. He went on to attend Western Illinois University, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in Law Enforcement and Justice Administration with a minor in sociology. In 2015, Piers graduated from the 75th Indiana State Police Recruit Academy and was assigned to the Lafayette Post.

In 2020, Piers was promoted to Sergeant and served as the Public Information Officer for the Lafayette District. Throughout his career, he has held several additional roles, including Field Training Officer and member of the All Crimes Policing Team, Mobile Field Force Team, and Indiana Counter Drug Task Force. He has also served as an Emergency Vehicle Operations (EVO) and Precision Immobilization Technique (PIT) instructor and as a counselor for the 89th Indiana State Police Recruit Academy. In addition to his operational and training responsibilities, Piers serves as a financial coach with the Indiana State Police Wellness Section, supporting the agency’s financial wellness initiatives.

As the Assistant District Commander, First Sergeant Piers will assist with overseeing district operations, supervising personnel, and coordinating activities within the Lafayette District. He will work alongside district leadership to support the department’s mission of protecting the public and providing professional law enforcement services to the citizens of Indiana.
