The joint efforts of Legacy Foundation, Crown Point Community Foundation and Foundations of East Chicago have raised $987,000 for COVID-19 relief in Lake County.

The John W. Anderson Foundation announced that it will contribute $50,000 to the Lake County COVID-19 Emergency Fund at Legacy Foundation.

Crown Point Community Foundation, Foundations of East Chicago and Legacy Foundation have collaborated in raising money to support charities whose clients and services have been most impacted by the health and economic consequences of COVID-19.

The second round of emergency grants awarded $46,900 to nine organizations. The recent grant recipients include: ALS Association of Indiana, Ancilla Systems for Nazareth Home, City Life Center, Fair Haven Center for Women, Family Life Community Youth Center, HealthLinc, Inc., IWIN Foundation, Porter Starke Services for Maram Health Center, and St. Joseph Carmelite Home.

The grants support telecommunication for people with ALS, activity kits to engage youth at home, meal delivery for patients undergoing treatment for breast cancer, cleaning and sanitation supplies, equipment to virtually connect social workers to survivors of abuse, and more.

In total, $154,659 in emergency funding has been awarded from the three foundations.

Applications to the emergency fund are accepted on a rolling basis, with a weekly deadline of Sunday by midnight. Representatives from the foundations meet each week by phone to review new submissions and make funding decisions. The number of future grant awards will be dependent on the money raised through the foundations’ emergency response funds and the evolving needs over time.

The next weekly deadline to apply is Sunday, April 12 by midnight. Interested organizations can see eligibility criteria and access the grant application online at Legacy Foundation's Website.

Donate online or by check to support the emergency grants. Gifts are tax-deductible to the fullest extent of the law. No gift is too small, and every dollar contributed will provide services to Lake County, Indiana communities.
