Officer Jonathan Hernandez was announced as the Munster Police Department’s 2019 Officer of the Year during the ceremony. He is a patrol officer, field training officer, evidence technician, and a member of the Honor Guard.
Officer Hernandez also regularly volunteers during community programs and events throughout the year such as Community Readers and the department’s annual Cops & Kids holiday shopping program for children in need. The Officer of the Year Award recipient is chosen each year by the members of the department and he received a plaque and certificate for his efforts.
Six Munster Police officers were also presented with Life Saving Awards during the ceremony.
These officers included Officer Jonathan Hernandez, Sergeant Daniel Croyle, Officer John Baran, K-9 Officer Alex Reillo, Detective Mark Ashcraft, and Officer Joseph Wells.
