**** Highly Recommended If MOMIX Alice returns to Chicago in the future, run don’t walk to the box office for tickets! Yes, it’s that good! Think psychedelic Cirque du Soleil meets Alice in Wonderland meets Grace Slick, if you can imagine that. If not, you’ll have to see it yourself! 4 BIG Spotlights
MOMIX is a dance company founded by choreographer Moses Pendleton. It is named after a solo he created for the 1980 Winter Olympics in Lake Placid.
Pendleton said he used the Alice in Wonderland story as a take-off point. An already ‘curious-er’ story using absurd logic, it presents an opportunity for imagination and innovation.
Combining dance, acrobatics, gymnastics, aerials, mime, film, ropes and a few props creates a dazzling set of illusions. Add in some awesome special effects and the result is a magical experience. The six dancers extend their bodies into incredible positions.
Alice falls down the rabbit hole into a reality where her body shrinks and grows, she’s faced with oversized mushrooms and flying cards, and plays croquet with the red queen. The psychedelic finale is done to White Rabbit by Jefferson Airplane – Grace Slick of singing Go Ask Alice, a highlight of the tripping 60s.
MOMIX Alice appeared for one night only at the Auditorium Theatre.
