When Trooper Wiley activated his emergency lights, the Charger continued northbound at a high rate of speed. Trooper Wiley pursued the Charger northbound to the 210 mile-marker, where Taylor struck a tire deflation device. Shortly after, the Charger’s front driver-side tire came off the rim, hit Trooper Wiley’s vehicle, and disabled it. Trooper Wiley was unable to continue the pursuit.
At that point, Troopers from the Lowell Post took the lead in the pursuit, which continued to the 220 mile-marker. At the 220 mile-marker, Newton and Jasper County Sherriff Departments placed a tire deflation device across the road. Taylor struck the tire deflation device causing the driver-side rear tire to deflate. As Taylor continued northbound, he lost the rear driver-side tire and was driving on two rims. At the 230 mile-marker, Taylor came to a stop, and officers were able to take Taylor and the passenger into custody. The passenger was released from the scene and transported off the interstate. Further investigation revealed Taylor was under the influence of a controlled substance. Taylor was arrested and transported to Tippecanoe County Jail.
Trooper Wiley was assisted on scene by Troopers from the Lafayette Post and Lowell Post, Jasper County Sheriff Department, Newton County Sheriff Department, Rensselaer Police Department, Farney’s Towing, and Cheever’s Towing.
