The outdoor Acorn Concert Series will resume at the Gabis Arboretum at Purdue Northwest this summer, after the COVID-19 pandemic forced cancellations last year.
“Musicians have been calling us for months because they can’t wait to return to the music scene,” said Stephanie Blackstock, the arboretum’s executive director. “Everyone on our lineup is excited to get in front of a crowd again and have some fun!”
The concert series includes four outdoor concerts throughout the summer.
Acorn Concert Series Lineup:
· Johnny V.’s Wildflowers: A tribute to Tom Petty - June 26
· The Steepwater Band: A blues rock experience - July 30
· Marrakesh Express: A Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young experience - August 21
· Heartache Tonight: A tribute to The Eagles - September 17
Gates open at 5:30 p.m., opening acts start at 6 p.m. and headliners start at 7:30 p.m.
“We added more variety this year,” Blackstock said, “and we included Fridays in the schedule. We hope to bring more families out to the concerts. I think everyone is ready to get outside.”
The concert series is a fundraiser for the arboretum. “It’s truly important for our annual budget. We use these funds to support the arboretum’s operations and education programs,” Blackstock said. “Along with the entrance ticket for the concert, guests can visit the Railway Garden and explore the rest of the arboretum”.
Tickets are available on the Gabis Arboretum website and at the gate the day of the concert. Adult tickets are $15 per person in advance and increase to $20 for non-members the week of the concert. Children 12 and under are free. Food, beer and wine will be available for purchase. Dogs are permitted and guests are allowed to bring picnics. Outside alcohol is prohibited.
Tickets can be purchased at pnw.edu/gabis-concerts.
