The Indiana DNR Community & Urban Forestry program and Northwestern Indiana Regional Planning Commission (NIRPC) are excited to offer the Invasive Tree Replacement program in northwest Indiana.
Property owners who show proof of removal of an invasive tree on their private property within Lake, Porter, and LaPorte counties are eligible to receive one free native tree at a replacement tree distribution event.
Acceptable species for removal include Callery/Bradford pear (Pyrus calleryana), Tree of Heaven (Ailanthus altissima), Burning Bush (Euonymous alatus), and any woody plant listed by the Indiana Invasive Species Council (Invasive Plants).
The replacement tree distribution event will be held at Northwestern Indiana Regional Planning Commission (6100 Southport Road, Portage, IN 46368)
• Friday, May 1, 4-6 p.m.
• Saturday, May 2, 10 a.m.-noon
