There are plenty of laughs to be found in the recent production being presented currently at Chicago's Broadway Playhouse.
The production "Eureka Day," which runs through Feb. 22 at Broadway Playhouse, revolves around serious subject matter, for sure, in that it involves the running of a progressive California day school, educational decisions and a focus on inclusivity. But it also shows another side of running this institution when a mumps outbreak brings up questions about vaccinating students and other sensitive topics.

"Eureka Day," which was written by Jonathan Spector, is presented by TimeLine Theatre Company and Broadway in Chicago. It's a Chicago premiere. The play won the 2025 Tony Award for Best Revival of A Play. The production also won the 2025 Drama League Award and Drama Desk Award for Outstanding Revival of A Play.
The ensemble group of actors in this show excels at comedic timing throughout. But the scene that is the ultimate standout of the show is the virtual meeting the staff and parents engage in about vaccinations. There's nonstop laughter from audience members during this segment as people can watch the hilarious written exchange on a computer screen set up on centerstage.

"Eureka Day" premiered in 2018 at Aurora Theatre Company in Berkeley. It later played New York and also London.
Audience members will surely be engaged in the "happenings" at this progressive and often hypocritical institution during this show.
