Chicago Fire FC returns to Soldier Field from the international break for a make-up match against Vancouver Whitecaps FC on Tuesday, Oct. 6 at 7:30 p.m., and a rematch against New York City FC on Saturday, Oct. 10 at 1:30 p.m. Both games will be available across the globe on Apple TV and locally on wlsam.com in English and TUDN Chicago 106.7-HD2 and Uforia by TREBEL app in Spanish.
Before the league paused for the first international window since FIFA World Cup 2026, the Men in Red faced Charlotte FC on Sept. 26 in North Carolina. The Fire broke through in the 58th minute, when Philip Zinckernagel's corner kick found Jack Elliott after an attempted clearance. The ball then fell to Johan Gómez, who didn’t hesitate to strike through traffic for his first goal in MLS. In his first start with Chicago, goalkeeper Josh Cohen posted a clean sheet in a 1-0 win that helped the Fire remain in fifth place in the East with a game in hand.
That game in hand is due to the postponement of a match originally scheduled for July 16 against Vancouver. Like the Fire, the 'Caps had to delay the restart of their season but bounced back to the top of the Western Conference. They arrive in Chicago following a 3-0 road victory against Real Salt Lake on Sept. 19 before an exhilarating 3-3 home draw against D.C. United on Sept. 26. Points on the lakefront could get the MLS Cup finalists closer to their fourth postseason appearance in a row.
Like Vancouver, New York City FC is coming off a draw in its last match, getting a point on the road against Atlanta United FC on Sept. 26. Despite taking two leads in Atlanta, the home side salvaged a 2-2 draw in the 74th minute of the match. That result came after a 1-0 home loss to rival Red Bull New York on Sept. 18, with USMNT striker Julian Hall scoring the only goal of the match off a miscue in the defensive half. Eager to stop a slide down to ninth in the Eastern Conference standings, New York City will rely on an unbeaten run against the Fire dating back to 2021.

MAtch Notes
- Tuesday's make-up match will be the first between Chicago and Vancouver since a 3-1 Fire victory in Canada in March 2025. The match was marked by a Man of the Match performance from Philip Zinckernagel, who scored the game-winner for his first goal with Chicago while adding an assist. It also marked the first time the Fire had won three road matches in a row since 2009.
- Zinckernagel and Robin Lod are the only two current Fire players who have scored a goal against Vancouver. Formerly with Western Conference rivals Minnesota United FC, Lod leads all players in minutes, games played and starts, adding three assists against Vancouver.
- Zinckernagel also leads his teammates in goals scored against New York City FC with two. But Andrew Gutman leads the way with three goal contributions, including a goal and two assists, in 12 appearances against the blue-clad club.
