Chicago Fire FC II (10-9-6-3, 39 points) fell 4-0 against Columbus Crew 2 (12-7-5-4, 45 points) Sunday afternoon at Historic Crew Stadium. Chicago remains in the playoff hunt within three points of sixth place in the Eastern Conference.
Conceding possession for the majority of the match, Columbus opted to strike on the counter multiple times. In the 35th minute, the backline tipped a cross by Homegrown midfielder Robert Turdean toward forward Chase Adams, who sent the ball for winger Oneal Taylor to finish on the other end for the opener. Adams scored in a similar manner in the 72nd minute, this time receiving a pass from leading goal scorer Kevin Gbamblé.
Chicago pushed to get back in the game, seeing a couple of chances cleared at the line. The Capybaras exploited CFII’s aggression, as Adams combined with Gbamblé for a second time before Jamil Danjaji sealed the result in stoppage time.
