Glass artists from Chesterton Art Center (CAC) are exhibiting new work at the Ellen Firme Art Gallery in Beverly Shores. “Chasing the Light” opens on Friday, September 12, and includes stained glass, mosaic, and fused glass pieces created by both students and instructors. Visitors to the exhibition can expect to see a range of glass art objects, including sculptural pieces, bowls, lamps, and more!
CAC’s glass program comprises a lineup of classes and workshops for students of all skill levels, from the curious beginner to the advanced practitioner. CAC’s glass classes are taught by a roster of four experienced artist instructors: Amanda Burton, Judy Gregurich, Mindy Milan, and Mark Montgomery.
“I was smitten early,” says Carol Lawrenz, an artist from the advanced classes, who initially enrolled in stained glass because her daughter thought it would be fun to do together. She goes on to say, “Stained glass opens so many avenues of creativity. I have more ideas than time to do them.”
For anyone interested in taking the leap and enrolling in one of CAC’s glass classes, there are presently several workshops open for registration on CAC’s website: Glass Fusing I Workshop on September 19, Stained Glass 3D Sunflower on October 2 + 9, Glass Fusing II Workshop on October 17, and Stained Glass 3D Pumpkin Workshop on October 25.
“I’m always amazed by the beautiful works of glass art that come out of our studio,” says Cara Schmitt, CAC Education Director. “It’s really inspiring to see a dedicated community of glass artists continue to practice their craft in our studio space.”
“Chasing the Light” can be viewed at the Ellen Firm Art Gallery, 92 W US Hwy 12, Beverly Shores, during normal business hours: Mon-Fri, 10 AM–5 PM + Sat, 10 AM–4 pm.
