Some businesses support animal shelters with supply drives of dog or cat food. However, one local business offered their support by wearing JEANS!
Humane Indiana hosted its 27th Annual Paws in the Park on Saturday, September 28th. The fundraising event benefits homeless pets at its shelter located at 421 45th Avenue in Munster, IN. While the day started with a few light sprinkles at Munster Community Park, pet-owners were not deterred. Hundreds of animal-loving families lined up for the animal-friendly, one-mile walk to show their support.
However, not everyone who supported the event was at the park. Majestic Star Casino created an online team Majestic Tail Blazers to help raise funds in support of the event. Christi Hardesty, Director of Marketing at Majestic Star, quickly realized work schedules would prohibit interested staff supporters. So she came up with another plan. “Our team wanted to support but couldn’t all be at the event, so we thought JEANS! Who doesn’t love a jean day at work when you wear a uniform every day?” Hardesty explained. Hardesty took their team efforts even farther and worked with Majestic’s Human Resources Department to make donating simple for participants. “We gave them the opportunity to donate $5 for one jean day or $20 to participate in five jean days,” she said.
More than 200 Majestic Star employees and vendors participated in the fundraising promotion. “We were elated that so many staff members participated and more importantly that we were able to support Humane Indiana’s shelter animals,” Hardesty added. But the giving didn’t end there. In August, Majestic Star also hosted its Annual Putting For Patriots Golf Outing at White Hawk Country Club in Crown Point. “One-hundred percent of those proceeds are dedicated to helping our nation’s military heroes,” Hardesty said. The funds were donated to help veterans adopt a pet at Humane Indiana’s animal shelter. The pay-it-forward plan will help veterans with adoption fees at the shelter. “This was the perfect opportunity for us to help two of Majestic Star’s passions – VETS and pets,” Hardesty added. Today Hardesty and her team presented Humane Indiana with a check for $10,731 for their combined fundraising efforts for the organization.
“We’re extremely grateful to Majestic Star and their team for their efforts and generosity,” said Lisa Carpenter, Humane Indiana’s Chief Development Officer. “They’ve gone above and beyond to support our mission and help shelter pets, and their dedication to helping veterans is simply heartwarming,” Carpenter added.
