Remy Bumppo Theatre Company is pleased to present ARTIST DESCENDING A STAIRCASE by Tom Stoppard as a radio play directed by Remy Bumppo co-founder and Artist Director Emeritus James Bohnen. The show, full of sparkling wit, heartwrenching romance and modern art, will be available online and free to listen to from April 5th through April 18th.
ARTIST DESCENDING A STAIRCASE is one of Stoppard’s brilliant early radio plays, written in 1972 and a precursor to Travesties, The Real Thing and The Invention of Love. The story begins with the mysterious death of one of the three main characters, all Dadaist artists and friends since their schooldays. The two elderly survivors hilariously set about examining their emotional and artistic histories, descending backwards in time from 1972 to 1914 and forwards again, tracing their intertwined youthful relationships and unconsciously uncovering the tragedy in their past.
This production will feature Remy Bumppo Artistic Director Nick Sandys as well as Remy Core Ensemble Members Annabel Armour, Peter A. Davis, and Aurora Real De Asua.
Remy Bumppo Theatre Company’s production of ARTIST DESCENDING A STAIRCASE, a radio play, will be available for streaming from April 5 through April 18, 2021. The production is free to listen to, however registration is required. An Open Captioned version of the production will also be made available for viewing.
