Just a day, but packed with adventure! Our Saugatuck day trip includes boutique browsing, salty and sweet treats, and plenty of photo-worthy lake views. Make sure to stop by the Farmers Market before 2:00 pm! It’s the ultimate mini getaway - short, sweet, and full of sunshine.
Here is fun itinerary to see what you can discover in a day:
Explore Downtown
Start your day strolling along Butler Street, the heart of downtown Saugatuck.
Take time to:
- Browse art galleries and unique boutiques.
- Stop in a local bookstore or gift shop.
- Grab coffee and breakfast at a sidewalk café.
- Walk along the waterfront and watch boats on the Kalamazoo River.
- Visit the Farmer's Market and pick up some peaches.
- Ride the Historic Chain Ferry
One of Saugatuck's most iconic experiences is riding the hand-cranked Chain Ferry across the river. It's one of the last remaining chain ferries in the country and takes only a few minutes, but it's a memorable experience. There is a per person fee each way.
Lunch at Some local favorites include:
- The Butler – waterfront dining with burgers, sandwiches, and seafood.
- Phil's Bar & Grille – casual and well-loved by locals.
- Coral Gables – if you're looking for a special meal.
Before Heading Home Don't leave without grabbing:
- Ice cream or homemade fudge.
- A locally roasted coffee.
- A bottle of Michigan wine or cider from one of the downtown shops.
