The nonprofit Wicker Park Bucktown Chamber of Commerce (WPBCC) presents a new month-long event WPB Art Quest to celebrate the artistic roots in the neighborhoods. From September 15-October 15, art enthusiasts from across Chicago and beyond are invited to go on a self-curated quest to check out dozens of vibrant murals, sculptures, and galleries throughout Wicker Park and Bucktown. A digital map of all murals and public art in Wicker Park and Bucktown is HERE, and more information can be found on WPBCC’s weekly blog Weekend Arts Guide for art happenings in the entire neighborhoods at www.wickerparkbucktown.com/art-around-wpb.

Hebru Brantely paints new mural in Wicker Park

The newest major addition to Wicker Park and Bucktown’s public art is a mural by street artist Ali Six (@ali_six_) of his iconic Richie the Racoon character, titled Butterfly Effect and installed this summer along the CTA blue line embankment at Milwaukee Ave. and Wolcott Ave. The mural is a tribute to Olga Maria Calderon—the victim of a tragic incident at the neighboring Walgreens, with one of the butterflies symbolizing her free soul. An artist talk with Ali Six will be held in late September at Jackson Junge Gallery, 1389 N. Milwaukee Ave.; more details will be announced later.

Registration for WPB Art Quest is optional, and patrons who purchase a $45 ticket will receive a limited edition commemorative t-shirt featuring Ali Six’s new mural, as well as the renowned Hebru Brantley’s spectacular Flyboy mural at Wood St. and Beach Ave., both of which were commissioned, sponsored, and funded by Wicker Park Bucktown Special Service Area #33. A portion of the proceeds from the t-shirt sales will go to nonprofits designated by the two artists. Participants will be encouraged to take photos wearing their t-shirts around WPB Art Quest locations and post on Instagram using #wpbartquest to be featured in @wpbcc social media posts. Tickets can be purchased at www.wickerparkbucktown.com.
