Porter County residents will soon have a new hub for the arts if this crowdfunding campaign reaches its goal of raising $45,000 by Nov. 22, 2024. If successful, the project led by the Valparaiso Creative Council will receive a matching grant as part of the Indiana Housing and Community Development Authority’s (IHCDA) CreatINg Places program.
"The transformation of this space in Valparaiso has tremendous upsides for artists and community members alike," said Lt. Gov. Suzanne Crouch, Indiana's Secretary of Agriculture and Rural Development. "This campaign highlights the city's dynamic vision, and the project will become a catalyst for art and culture in Porter County."
Valparaiso Creative Council (@valpocreates) is a non-profit organization comprised of community leaders entrusted with developing the Creative District for Valparaiso, IN. In two years, VCC has tackled 8 monumental murals, an 18 foot sculpture, a theatrical speakeasy, quarterly local art exhibits, and creative programming for learners of all ages!
First things first, if funded, this initial Phase I campaign will allow VCC to update each section into usable, multi-purposed creator spaces.
Funding from this campaign will directly help VCC:
- Remodel four separate interior spaces
- Add two public restrooms
- Enhance rentable rooms for creatives
- Update spaces with tech resources
- Develop an accessible Creative Hub
- Create an official office space for VCC

- Conferences
- Artists/Creators
- Arts Organizations
- Pop-up workshops
- VCC initiatives you've grown to love
"We are so excited to utilize this phenomenal funding opportunity to help catapult our organization into a location all our own," said Jessica Corral, executive director of the Valparaiso Creative Council. "The building will provide spaces for artists and will encourage the community to participate as well. Our mission is to be the creative bridge between artists and residents and the Valpo Creates Center will aim to be exactly that."
